<br />
I'm so happy to be stitching on Sharla again! <b>She's so much fun.</b> Starting her over using tent stitch was the right decision.<br />
<br />
Here she is after page one:<br />

<br />
I was pretty unhappy with how uneven my stitches were turning out through the first page. I couldn't seem to make any changes that would make a difference. I finally figured out it was due to the <b>tension of my fabric</b>. The tighter the tension, the more consistent my stitches look. This probably should have been obvious, but it's the first time I've run into any issue.<br />
<br />
I would love to hear how you maintain good tension on your fabric. I imagine a millennium frame is a good investment, but for now I only have a set of q-snaps and a floor stand frame that doesn't hold the tension adequately for long.<div class="blogger-post-footer">All content © <a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com">Delphyne in Stitches</a>.</div>Delphynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06980000265491026147noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6486144155807798702.post-60161842843720878202015-07-13T06:17:00.000-05:002015-07-14T09:33:15.527-05:00New Start | Rocky Point<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
I mentioned in my <a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com/2015/07/currently-stitching-july-6.html">last update</a> that I wasn't very fond of Rocky Point. I had frogged it four times before finally deciding I was going to stitch it. Thankfully it is growing on me. I think I'm going to enjoy using the parking technique with this one.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
I really happy with how the colors are turning out. This is a reminder of the finished piece:<br />

<br />
I think the floor stand is a signal to her that my lap is planning to stay put a while.<br />
<br />
Last week was a great week for stitching. I finished the hummingbird portion of Hibiscus Duo:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPwyHD8B8WhjGwDs3eQOdogGR0veuIDLbXMswcqhFHX-adS_Bijy4uNbc0zFka_cwmsEdNsLQa3A1lHh44gzELIcuQumQq2vCsbxInrohmCEjO-iNPSvc026qrVVdWkYtP4iKurXX7Htdt/s1600/20150703_163200.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Hummingbird of Hibiscus Duo Cross Stitch WIP" border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPwyHD8B8WhjGwDs3eQOdogGR0veuIDLbXMswcqhFHX-adS_Bijy4uNbc0zFka_cwmsEdNsLQa3A1lHh44gzELIcuQumQq2vCsbxInrohmCEjO-iNPSvc026qrVVdWkYtP4iKurXX7Htdt/s320/20150703_163200.jpg" title="Hummingbird of Hibiscus Duo Cross Stitch WIP" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
That was my goal for the week so I rewarded myself with a new start. Unfortunately, Rocky Point turned out to be the bane of my weekend. I was really torn on whether I wanted to put it away for good, but I spent so much time getting the fabric ready and putting everything on bobbins, I've decided I'm going to work on it.<br />
<br />
This is what the finished piece will look like:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYhnNqx0h7n8lZ-_r0LO_6ilBNEK4yyi3DM_QnTrkow6FIhqjWUEJbZW-SMuO9DsgInaClliHnYQtzC0IlLM0fU69hAuysUPrZG8d8RcHEIA-OajAlSRYuJITNTpNkxzmqKslvOn7Xnv9U/s1600/rocky+point.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Dimensions Rocky Point Cross Stitch Kit" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYhnNqx0h7n8lZ-_r0LO_6ilBNEK4yyi3DM_QnTrkow6FIhqjWUEJbZW-SMuO9DsgInaClliHnYQtzC0IlLM0fU69hAuysUPrZG8d8RcHEIA-OajAlSRYuJITNTpNkxzmqKslvOn7Xnv9U/s320/rocky+point.jpg" title="Dimensions Rocky Point Cross Stitch Kit" width="214" /></a></div>
<br />
It seems like the majority of the pattern is comprised of half stitches, 3 strands, and blended colors so I'm not too keen on it right now. I'm going to try parking the whole thing from the top down.<br />
<br />

It's been on my mind lately since I've been cross stitching a lot. I think it's time I finally post some updates!<br />
<br />
I'm happy to see so many of you still posting. I'm trying to get the blogs I like to visit into my new blog reader so make sure you say hi if you stop by so I can be sure to get you added.<br />
<br />
Since my last post, I finished High Tide.<br />
<br />

I'm sorry about the evening shadows. Hopefully I'll get a better picture once I attempt to frame it.<br />
<br />
I recently framed Seashell Beauty and gifted it to my mom. I love how it turned out. It was a Dimensions Daydreams kit. It came with an 8x8 mat which layered perfectly under an 8x10 mat and frame.<br />

Wimbledon tennis starts this week so I will definitely get in a lot of stitching time over the next two weeks.<br />

I had too many things going on and failed miserably.<br />
<br />
I did spend a tiny bit of time on my <a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com/2012/06/new-start-super-mario-blanket.html">Mario Blanket</a>.<br />
<br />
I finished up "Gooba's Shoe" last week (I'll post on it later this week), and my son chose the hammer suit for me to crochet next.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUL4xafJZAnimdo0tGYMXAwUPJImPTk4sNVyH7kQvZPZBwwu6VLdhn1YpCelnAVw1LgDfLL5G8D4gqm8HEHSmnAaNzc_oOpQ6d7kro0XER_LIBBa2iKeKJZnMbYPWJMebBVTKYMZ1kKhLj/s1600/hammer-suit-wip.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="239" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUL4xafJZAnimdo0tGYMXAwUPJImPTk4sNVyH7kQvZPZBwwu6VLdhn1YpCelnAVw1LgDfLL5G8D4gqm8HEHSmnAaNzc_oOpQ6d7kro0XER_LIBBa2iKeKJZnMbYPWJMebBVTKYMZ1kKhLj/s320/hammer-suit-wip.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I only have a teeny pattern to show the finished look. I hope you can see it:<br />

I've been very fortunate to win a few giveaways in the last couple of weeks.<br />
<br />
First was <a href="http://lesleyanneslifeinstitches.blogspot.com/">Lesleyanne</a>'s biscornu kit giveaway to which she added some really awesome charts.<br />
<br />
The <a href="http://www.yiotas-xstitch.com/cross-stitch-kits-patterns/biscornu/diamond-flower-biscornu">Diamond Flower Biscornu</a> kit is from <a href="http://www.yiotas-xstitch.com/">Yiotas XStitch</a>. The kit includes the cross stitch pattern, instructions, 14 count aida, threads, buttons, beads and filling for the biscornu.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0ZEsfJQRLlmjl_bm-6tdV4_dBcSrCTmauruwH04Hp5zWERcNSPJSEInCpX4rCicr97LdAaIle-GiLKgA3rKiyJJ0HbTNdSyJWTM4Hiog4AfCZO_DHIdjr8znHA6XiRVlnKxTgba1N0JPL/s1600/flower_biscornu_cross_stitch_pattern.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0ZEsfJQRLlmjl_bm-6tdV4_dBcSrCTmauruwH04Hp5zWERcNSPJSEInCpX4rCicr97LdAaIle-GiLKgA3rKiyJJ0HbTNdSyJWTM4Hiog4AfCZO_DHIdjr8znHA6XiRVlnKxTgba1N0JPL/s1600/flower_biscornu_cross_stitch_pattern.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I'm really excited as I've never stitched a biscornu before!<br />
<br />
Lesleyanne also included a few of the <a href="http://www.littlehouseneedleworks.com/ornamentofthemonth.html">"All Dolled Up" ornaments of the month</a> charts from Little House Needleworks. I love these!<br />

Then I won another huge giveaway from the super sweet <a href="http://thecraftyprincess.blogspot.com/">The Crafty Princess</a>: a $40 gift certificate to HAED! Awesome, right? I'm trying to be strong and wait until HAED has a sale so I can maximize my winnings. (Great idea, <a href="http://thecraftyprincess.blogspot.com/">Alicia</a>!)<br />

While I didn't get in as much stitching as I did last weekend while watching French Open tennis, I did hit a good milestone on High Tide. The Sailboat section is now complete (excluding the backstitching).<br />

I have a thing for mermaids and Hannah Lynn, so it was easy to choose my first HAED project:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXR6Bb-29w3C8d4YCjR873URbdjDj0aQzFVN9idIosEUQ0ekMl1DC7SL_t9b20XG2OAfWZnnc5OFGo8P1OxyafYs97URgODEMw4jbCpxgb58NGzZtFw0YjoKHXtq2-wqKDutuqCUPwa5t2/s1600/sharla-haed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXR6Bb-29w3C8d4YCjR873URbdjDj0aQzFVN9idIosEUQ0ekMl1DC7SL_t9b20XG2OAfWZnnc5OFGo8P1OxyafYs97URgODEMw4jbCpxgb58NGzZtFw0YjoKHXtq2-wqKDutuqCUPwa5t2/s320/sharla-haed.jpg" width="228" /></a></div><br />
I quickly realized it would take an entire lifetime to complete her stitching 1 over 1. This is as far as I managed to get with Sharla:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrRu-bEBKUGQt12tudCMNg_9QRNt-9ZzUEQTjmqjI3FCNFJRG8PGO7DExfa7-4tHNtbVBVgIdwCSqUiMOxV4Ixjp4iQIfdzLsggUkO-90o5Vsmnhwdxpm9FVM187bKeohMh3KH6tveCS1w/s1600/sharla-pre-frog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrRu-bEBKUGQt12tudCMNg_9QRNt-9ZzUEQTjmqjI3FCNFJRG8PGO7DExfa7-4tHNtbVBVgIdwCSqUiMOxV4Ixjp4iQIfdzLsggUkO-90o5Vsmnhwdxpm9FVM187bKeohMh3KH6tveCS1w/s320/sharla-pre-frog.jpg" width="293" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Not very impressive. I pondered for months whether I should switch to 2 over 1 tent stitch. I did some test stitching, and I really liked how the 2 over 1 tent stitches came out. I finally made the decision to frog what I had done and start over.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrqt00dkAUaDzZD6frdfHgnvDuYezK9JLvFN8pPzV-OAOW3EctBdi7RmcxESu349aA0hwk8w8VxGJkJUM5nfbcgfe9JiPTeEtAIsI6mWGkV-O453cwh7-645PeAjZDLR0kMdVz2ur5sreg/s1600/ryan-gosling-frog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="211" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgrqt00dkAUaDzZD6frdfHgnvDuYezK9JLvFN8pPzV-OAOW3EctBdi7RmcxESu349aA0hwk8w8VxGJkJUM5nfbcgfe9JiPTeEtAIsI6mWGkV-O453cwh7-645PeAjZDLR0kMdVz2ur5sreg/s320/ryan-gosling-frog.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I gotta tell you - frogging that much 1 over 1 was a nightmare. To top it off, on my very last little 10x10 square I cut a thread on the fabric. I don't even know how I did it. There were some other close calls I could have understood if I broke the thread, but nothing bad should have occurred when it did. <br />
<br />
My husband suggested I move Sharla down the fabric since the cut thread was on the top row of the pattern. I got out the measuring tape to find out not only did I have enough room to move Sharla past the cut thread, I probably had enough room to just move Sharla past the entire section I just frogged. <i>I didn't need to frog any of it.</i> I could have cut off the stitched portion or just flipped the fabric upside down.<br />
<br />
In the end I wound up flipping the fabric upside down anyway. My cut thread is now at the bottom below where I will reach. That was a big lesson to me. <i>Never, ever frog an entire piece without first measuring to see if I can just recut my fabric</i>!<br />
<br />
The good news is this is my best season for stitching: grand slam tennis time. The last two weeks the French Open has been on. Since men's matches are usually about 3-5 hours each, I can get in a lot of stitching time glued to the couch. This year's final match had 3 rain delays! Talk about getting in some stitching time. :)<br />
<br />
This is my new progress picture of Sharla:<br />
<br />

So far I have 2 squares completed for the blanket: the mushroom and the star power.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaF3Ure2kT44WCPwicZMkgDctsYVF1_K52owfH5n56B0dRTqsax8nC0Why6mOFqc3uQMK1PeKA_rZWEQMIdD1dYt3274aoW831TDly40lYr12MEht26GfoeI7bPQ0TbMEZp8krR9wpDO-6/s1600/mario-mushroom-star-wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaF3Ure2kT44WCPwicZMkgDctsYVF1_K52owfH5n56B0dRTqsax8nC0Why6mOFqc3uQMK1PeKA_rZWEQMIdD1dYt3274aoW831TDly40lYr12MEht26GfoeI7bPQ0TbMEZp8krR9wpDO-6/s320/mario-mushroom-star-wm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
This is my working pattern. I still haven't decided exactly which characters are going to make the cut.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizV3ocpUH_iRj_qtrEh0A2I182BWrJujZJOAuiwray3fhxLBvB1w3HKPhyphenhyphenGrje6bT56RouaQogTXW1ptCS3OV08hNSuR9kJqbIjc85uTa1IYGPLA4Q8ekzCUp1mrcZZtFdGTztCgfGFwtm/s1600/mario-pattern-wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="206" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizV3ocpUH_iRj_qtrEh0A2I182BWrJujZJOAuiwray3fhxLBvB1w3HKPhyphenhyphenGrje6bT56RouaQogTXW1ptCS3OV08hNSuR9kJqbIjc85uTa1IYGPLA4Q8ekzCUp1mrcZZtFdGTztCgfGFwtm/s320/mario-pattern-wm.jpg" width="320" /></a></div></div><br />
Each image on the pattern is a 16x16 pixel graphic. I'm doubling each pixel to 2x2 as I crochet so the end result is a 32x32 stitched image (plus a 4 stitch border all the way around the image).<br />
<br />
You will notice there are several repeat images on my pattern. Take Toad for example. It took me so long to make every image the exact same dimensions, I didn't have it in me to make a blue Toad, a yellow Toad, and a red Toad. I can just look at the blue Toad and make it red. The same thing goes for several of the Mario characters.<br />
<br />
Right now I'm planning to crochet 28 Mario characters and 28 solid squares. That may change again, but that is the current plan.<br />
<br />
My son is helping me decide which characters to stitch next. Hopefully this will also help eliminate how hard it is to narrow down the images. I've started stitching Goomba's Shoe (what we call "the boot"), and I think it will be one of the easier squares.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhKAJJ9J6EXbLk0Ya_VimyVgUoqlueNyHCDspDdTyfzERMFvRfz-kAWiSHyeEU83pmaNK9W56aj49mT3d5xA1mK6CAJrzOpIbMs58r26wn0t0CLdcOIsrac6iup99vsuAG9zEv2rbi8seL/s1600/mario-goombas-shoe.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="238" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhKAJJ9J6EXbLk0Ya_VimyVgUoqlueNyHCDspDdTyfzERMFvRfz-kAWiSHyeEU83pmaNK9W56aj49mT3d5xA1mK6CAJrzOpIbMs58r26wn0t0CLdcOIsrac6iup99vsuAG9zEv2rbi8seL/s320/mario-goombas-shoe.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I'm using mostly Caron Simply Soft yarn, but I will use a couple Red Heart Super Saver yarns, too. The yellow I used for the star power is RHSS. I needed it to be really bright.<br />
<br />
You can also see my plastic crochet hook in that last picture. If you are going to do a small project in Tunisian crochet, I really recommend these plastic crochet hooks. The normal Tunisian crochet hooks (that look like knitting needles) are just too long and most regular crochet hooks do not allow you to keep enough stitches on your hook. Prior to getting the plastic hooks, I was using a regular aluminum hook, but it was a nightmare trying to get my stitches over the grip bump. <br />
<br />
These are the crochet hooks I am using:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAtlZKj8Knj4cwHhEG197p4KARTzHadzlHaXPj6DiCTf-gJI0OVKJdtgH9LRSxTivjzmTz454sIRFVPP-kpAK8ulz6jSPm0zSqvnHbhncOvXe8cJbajCloPTkYb76KiXBtyUYgwD8Yse9g/s1600/plastic-crochet-hooks.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAtlZKj8Knj4cwHhEG197p4KARTzHadzlHaXPj6DiCTf-gJI0OVKJdtgH9LRSxTivjzmTz454sIRFVPP-kpAK8ulz6jSPm0zSqvnHbhncOvXe8cJbajCloPTkYb76KiXBtyUYgwD8Yse9g/s200/plastic-crochet-hooks.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
I got them at Michael's in a set of G - K. I'm using size J for my Mario squares. The key is to find a hook that is smooth all the way down (no grips). Another great option is bamboo double ended crochet hooks.<br />
<br />
I have a few other projects in the works, and I <i>have </i>to finish <a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com/search/label/High%20Tide">Hide Tide</a> in the next month or so, but this blanket really is a lot of fun. I'm excited to see it progress, and I just love how excited my boys are about it, too.<br />
<br />

I knew I wouldn't have much time to stitch, but I signed up for <a href="http://joysze.blogspot.com/2012/05/ihsw-may-signup.html">International Hermit and Stitch Weekend</a> anyway. It was the boost I needed to find the time to relax a minute.<br />
<br />
I'm working on the sailboat section of High Tide. It's the very last section. I'm excited I will only have the border left to do once the sailboat is complete.<br />
<br />

I spent the weekend machine stitching since my toddler needed a nap mat and my preschooler needed a pillow and blanket.<br />
<br />
They both wanted Spongebob. Add that to the Spongebob lunchkit and we look like a family much obsessed.<br />
<br />
My preschooler's pillow and blanket:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFOKu1yQEqLrV07NQfVVw46rIa57H8mDuMYiIPfwuy_N-ViJmpkYNlcUVfMWJBJv1rGXHPE0_CWHYc_iF_Z6NM9LVPtVbMvUdwazwUv1-NKecxgdypXFi3p5C80jAn_Pi3paLaGEyMeApf/s1600/pillowblanket.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Spongebob nap pillow and blanket" border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFOKu1yQEqLrV07NQfVVw46rIa57H8mDuMYiIPfwuy_N-ViJmpkYNlcUVfMWJBJv1rGXHPE0_CWHYc_iF_Z6NM9LVPtVbMvUdwazwUv1-NKecxgdypXFi3p5C80jAn_Pi3paLaGEyMeApf/s320/pillowblanket.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><br />
In the folded down corner, you can see a little bit of where I sewed his name into the blanket. The pillow has something similar.<br />
<br />
My toddler's napmat:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSkLJhxh8SJizB8s6lU27BHx4NMKQBP7XQKNainCQBJGZcWHlTifUf1oRDcTubyf8oZeA5L8uZ7cKnPzYrSK4EtwySmrIHAQeS5HzKzXdiRhDODLVJFP01aarg2lIBBIsz1hs-4nAL7xNo/s1600/napmatroll.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left:1em; margin-right:1em"><img border="0" height="240" width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSkLJhxh8SJizB8s6lU27BHx4NMKQBP7XQKNainCQBJGZcWHlTifUf1oRDcTubyf8oZeA5L8uZ7cKnPzYrSK4EtwySmrIHAQeS5HzKzXdiRhDODLVJFP01aarg2lIBBIsz1hs-4nAL7xNo/s320/napmatroll.jpg" alt="Spongebob nap mat roll" /></a></div><br />
The entire thing is one piece and rolls up with velcro tabs and a shoulder strap. His name is sewn into the shoulder strap, but I scrambled his name for the picture. <br />
<br />

It obviously needs a lot of backstitching! It doesn't look like I'm going to make my July goal, but I only have one section left and the overall border before High Tide is complete.<br />

<br />
I decided it was the perfect time to treat myself to a new start with Harvest Moon.<br />
<br />
I was able to hermit up on Saturday with a bajillion episodes of Destination Truth on Netflix and get in a lot of stitching time.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmeVHiys9vI9pKy53jVgUFhn8Fp8sPp5BTKs7dVF4NZ1b5yMITcyuoB1b-Y7fsLtx7cVdkwr5BG73ccol1gFs_sIihRlAtuGmZbt_j7yFSnvyzQrbEQ-2EqSy72WroV2lu1pIkUuuWqJo4/s1600/harvest-moon-neighbors.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmeVHiys9vI9pKy53jVgUFhn8Fp8sPp5BTKs7dVF4NZ1b5yMITcyuoB1b-Y7fsLtx7cVdkwr5BG73ccol1gFs_sIihRlAtuGmZbt_j7yFSnvyzQrbEQ-2EqSy72WroV2lu1pIkUuuWqJo4/s320/harvest-moon-neighbors.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
My kids were unexpectedly excited to see me stitching on dark cloth. I brought out their lacing cards and let them stitch with me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0ljG7pfKL7gdt6dc8KmxY84xI_VpPRqzFLDkgzESVPPv5_7x0F-NO2Zz3CIffVT-dEln4hBQOqyq5SOvrssccTg6c9Wctz4dd67wn2E09H-zXIJ9VkBoCRCP7RcpBECIT73fEphP4aEsz/s1600/lacing+cards.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0ljG7pfKL7gdt6dc8KmxY84xI_VpPRqzFLDkgzESVPPv5_7x0F-NO2Zz3CIffVT-dEln4hBQOqyq5SOvrssccTg6c9Wctz4dd67wn2E09H-zXIJ9VkBoCRCP7RcpBECIT73fEphP4aEsz/s1600/lacing+cards.jpg" /></a></div><br />
I didn't have as much time on Sunday to stitch, but I did get to spend some time finishing the bushes and stitching in the fence and a tree.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixxY7VVjhkrZc9U7dYsuzzF5xEOIGkOXUNJiTM5p38In1jaNGYkgBMA1aMm8FwIlzlDb0Infx3-jnzVXbARC3Yl58PriIrTr77OXRTY4mH3-SDg4_g_NQJQqQpXnNk1Q1FbvBKg3Nq3MHl/s1600/harvest-moon-fence-tree.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixxY7VVjhkrZc9U7dYsuzzF5xEOIGkOXUNJiTM5p38In1jaNGYkgBMA1aMm8FwIlzlDb0Infx3-jnzVXbARC3Yl58PriIrTr77OXRTY4mH3-SDg4_g_NQJQqQpXnNk1Q1FbvBKg3Nq3MHl/s320/harvest-moon-fence-tree.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I hope you all had a fantastic weekend! <b>Did you watch anything great while you stitched?</b> I'm apparently addicted to Destination Truth now...<div class="blogger-post-footer">All content © <a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com">Delphyne in Stitches</a>.</div>Delphynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06980000265491026147noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6486144155807798702.post-43247843729072094352011-07-15T07:49:00.000-05:002011-07-15T07:49:00.680-05:00Update on Harvest Moon<b>Fabric Update</b><br />
<br />
I <a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com/2011/06/fabric-for-harvest-moon.html">mentioned a month ago</a> I ordered fabric for Harvest Moon. It didn't go as well as I'd hoped (no stores actually have the fabric) so I'm giving up on Colonial Blue Aida. The middle part of the sky in Harvest Moon is the aida fabric showing through. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisNVfrz_PkdXAE-hn8qyuNo8T3-Yvm9HFeyOTGx-80za9qLbnwZoxdqd1ac6yWyPhN8HySHF_jSG2LdR1xHAphMKzK1QelZu6PMNDROnv4ExZwb47TWN7Q22UzcLlZcZac4C7unHCq7WDO/s1600/harvest-moon-cover-close-up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisNVfrz_PkdXAE-hn8qyuNo8T3-Yvm9HFeyOTGx-80za9qLbnwZoxdqd1ac6yWyPhN8HySHF_jSG2LdR1xHAphMKzK1QelZu6PMNDROnv4ExZwb47TWN7Q22UzcLlZcZac4C7unHCq7WDO/s320/harvest-moon-cover-close-up.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />
I'm instead going to stitch the colonial blue color and make the project cover the entire fabric. I was trying to decide last night when I could order more fabric, and it dawned on me I had a large piece of navy Aida in a kit I would probably never use! Crisis solved! The color shouldn't matter much now that the fabric will be covered.<br />
<br />
I got out the navy Aida and cut it to size (with enough left over for some small projects I'm planning for my nephew!) and whip stitched all of the edges. I started gridding the fabric and realized there is an error in the chart. One of the columns is only 9 squares wide instead of 10! It became obvious pretty quickly how much of a nightmare it would be trying to grid <strike>right</strike> <strike>wrong</strike> right. I'm so glad I noticed before gridding the entire piece!<br />

Joyce over at <a href="http://joysze.blogspot.com/">Random Ramblings</a> is hosting the International Hermit and Stitch Weekend (<a href="http://joysze.blogspot.com/2011/07/ihsw-july.html">IHSW</a>) this weekend. I've decided I'm going to treat myself to a weekend of Harvest Moon.<br />
<br />
<b>Floss Update</b><br />
<br />
<a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com/2011/06/disassemblage-of-harvest-moon-floss.html">I posted</a> about my 2 year old taking all the DMC labels off my Harvest Moon floss. Like <a href="http://tangledthreadsstitching.blogspot.com/">Rhona</a> suggested, I found a DMC color chart at Michael's and it helped tremendously! It truly saved me. I want to thank Jo from <a href="http://serendipitousstitching.blogspot.com/">Serendipitous Stitching</a> for offering to send me snippets of DMC so I could match and renumber my threads. What a sweet and selfless offer!<br />
<br />
I hope to have some Harvest Moon progress to share next week.<div class="blogger-post-footer">All content © <a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com">Delphyne in Stitches</a>.</div>Delphynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06980000265491026147noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6486144155807798702.post-7412388807279498732011-07-13T07:29:00.000-05:002011-07-13T07:29:00.560-05:00High Tide Fishing Section CompleteThe fishing section is done!<br />

It took me a while to take a picture so I could post about it!<br />
<br />
This will be my first HEAD project. Actually this will be my first BAP project of any kind. I'm stitching Sharla. She is a mermaid from artist Hannah Lynn Disney. I've been a fan of Hannah Lynn's for many years. I thought it would be really hard to select my first HAED until I saw they had charted some Hannah Lynns!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXR6Bb-29w3C8d4YCjR873URbdjDj0aQzFVN9idIosEUQ0ekMl1DC7SL_t9b20XG2OAfWZnnc5OFGo8P1OxyafYs97URgODEMw4jbCpxgb58NGzZtFw0YjoKHXtq2-wqKDutuqCUPwa5t2/s1600/sharla-haed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXR6Bb-29w3C8d4YCjR873URbdjDj0aQzFVN9idIosEUQ0ekMl1DC7SL_t9b20XG2OAfWZnnc5OFGo8P1OxyafYs97URgODEMw4jbCpxgb58NGzZtFw0YjoKHXtq2-wqKDutuqCUPwa5t2/s320/sharla-haed.jpg" width="228" /></a></div><br />
I'm stitching her one over one on 28 ct mushroom Lugana. I've stitched on 28 ct Lugana before but never one over one. It's so tiny! I'm really enjoying it, though, (minus how horribly hard it is to unstitch a mistake).<br />
<br />
I'm trying not to let her overtake High Tide as I'm hoping to finish High Tide this month. <br />
<br />
Sharla: started July 2nd.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQzvbeCYM7A_bkBLactuo2Qg033DOmuhzlUmvNU3WkZf9BEBKkvcGlSNjIGeRUPSVIyTYCH5XoBCHXpKuYIISQTbzVn1sk_8vhuA7NMRUIoqUMd0LTFzNjZ-9L8OsCjDGNUcrMmi2Lfwad/s1600/sharla-a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="234" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQzvbeCYM7A_bkBLactuo2Qg033DOmuhzlUmvNU3WkZf9BEBKkvcGlSNjIGeRUPSVIyTYCH5XoBCHXpKuYIISQTbzVn1sk_8vhuA7NMRUIoqUMd0LTFzNjZ-9L8OsCjDGNUcrMmi2Lfwad/s320/sharla-a.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br />

The sailboat was supposed to have some rope hanging over the side, but I didn't like how it looked so I made an executive to decision to leave it off.<br />
<br />

I love how the bait shop and FISHING sign turned out after backstitching the outlines! <br />
<br />

I brought out my bag of Harvest Moon floss - not just because I <a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com/2011/06/fabric-for-harvest-moon.html">ordered the fabric yesterday</a> - but to lust after the color palette. I love the colors of autumn.<br />
<br />
I left my bag unattended. I have a two year old.<br />
<br />
I walked in to find him pulling off the very last DMC number label. I didn't salvage a single one. He had every single paper off of the floss. He also had thread around his legs, his shoes...<br />
<br />
He was so cute helping me put the pile of thread and millions (slight exaggeration) of little labels back in the big bag. Then he stood up and a bunch fell out of his clothes. We put those in the bag, too.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisNVfrz_PkdXAE-hn8qyuNo8T3-Yvm9HFeyOTGx-80za9qLbnwZoxdqd1ac6yWyPhN8HySHF_jSG2LdR1xHAphMKzK1QelZu6PMNDROnv4ExZwb47TWN7Q22UzcLlZcZac4C7unHCq7WDO/s1600/harvest-moon-cover-close-up.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="241" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisNVfrz_PkdXAE-hn8qyuNo8T3-Yvm9HFeyOTGx-80za9qLbnwZoxdqd1ac6yWyPhN8HySHF_jSG2LdR1xHAphMKzK1QelZu6PMNDROnv4ExZwb47TWN7Q22UzcLlZcZac4C7unHCq7WDO/s320/harvest-moon-cover-close-up.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>I was crying to my husband about how many shades of the same colors were in Harvest Moon. 7 greens, 15 yellow/tan/brown... Why can I not tell the difference between yellow, tan, and brown for crying out loud?<br />
<br />
My sweet hubby said he would figure out which color was which. Really? Awesome! He's an artist and formally trained in color theory. Surely he can decipher the colors! Off I went to fix dinner!<br />
<br />
I walked back in to find my husband trying to untangle a mass of floss. Oh no. I should have seen that coming.<br />
<br />
I spent all night decoding half the colors. I completely failed at the other half. They are all just living in a label-less bag together. I'll figure it out. Somehow. :)<div class="blogger-post-footer">All content © <a href="http://delphyneinstitches.blogspot.com">Delphyne in Stitches</a>.</div>Delphynehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06980000265491026147noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6486144155807798702.post-51239639085205010482011-06-16T07:20:00.000-05:002011-06-16T07:20:00.242-05:00Fabric for Harvest MoonNext up in my queue is Harvest Moon.<br />

Today I ordered the fabric - so I'm almost set! Since the fabric will only show in various parts of the sky, I decided to go with some Zweigart Aida 14 ct. (Colonial Blue). It was mostly a cross stitch blog with some knitting and crochet mixed in. I got thrown a real life curve ball that greatly affected my stitching. Since I was no longer stitching, I eventually deleted my blog. I'm happy to report I've rediscovered my love of stitching, and I'm anxious to begin blogging and sharing my work again.<br />
<br />
I was in the middle of High Tide when I last left you:<br />
